Clock strikes eight, the shadows fall,
A quiet hum along the hall.
Shadow One, Shadow Two, Shadow Three,
Three void-black cats sitting silently.
And right beside the feline crew,
The golden dog sits frozen, too.
Four sets of eyes, one laser glare,
Locked onto... empty, open air.

There’s nothing on the wall, nothing on the floor!

Staring at a spot where nothing’s showing up!
Is it a ghost? Is it a ghoulish sprite?

Watching the void on the other side!

Looks like a meeting of four little witches.
Midnight, Pitch, and Shadow-cat,
Pointing their ears like a radar mat.
Barkley’s head tilts forty-five degrees,
A heavy silence begins to freeze.
I walk on over, I check the latch—
Is it a phantom they want to catch?
I open up the door, I peer outside...
Just a dark front porch where the crickets hide.

"It’s a invisible goblin in a top hat!"
(Silly whisper) ...Or maybe it's absolutely nothing at all!

I wave my hand right in front of their faces,
They don't even flinch, trapped in spooky places.
Four furry statues in a creepoid line,
Sending goosebumps right down my spine.
Then suddenly—SNAP!—the spell is done,
One licks a paw, one stretches for fun!
Dog wags his tail and turns around,
Leaving me terrified on haunted ground!

Now I'm the one staring at the door...
Who was watching who? I'm not so sure!
Three black cats and a dog on the rug,
Sleeping so sweet, cozy and snug...
While I stay awake all night!
